This 2-day trip from Marrakech to Merzouga was a whirlwind adventure perfect for anyone short on time in Morocco. While the journey itself is long (expect a full day of driving), the sights we saw along the way made it worthwhile. Crossing the High Atlas Mountains was breathtaking, with opportunities to stop for photos and admire the Berber villages clinging to the hillsides. The highlight, of course, was the Merzouga Desert. Riding camels across the vast Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset was an unforgettable experience. The desert camp was comfortable, with delicious food and friendly Berber staff. Gazing at the star-filled sky after dinner was simply magical. A few minor downsides: the car ride can be tiring, so be sure to bring snacks and entertainment. The tents at the camp, while comfortable, are basic. Overall, a fantastic trip for a taste of the Moroccan desert!
This 2-day tour packed a lot into a short amount of time. We saw the stunning Atlas Mountains, stopped by the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, and experienced the thrill of camel trekking in the Merzouga Desert. However, the breakneck pace left me wanting more time to explore each location. The car ride was long, and the stops felt a bit rushed. While the desert camp was lovely, I would have preferred a more luxurious option (perhaps with private bathrooms in the tents). If you're looking for a quick and affordable way to see the desert, this tour is a good option. But if you prefer a more relaxed pace and higher-end accommodations, you might want to consider a longer tour.
This 2-day desert tour from Marrakech was a fantastic option for budget-conscious travelers like myself. While the amenities might not be super luxurious, the experience was truly unbeatable for the price. The drive through the Atlas Mountains was scenic, and our guide was informative, pointing out interesting landmarks and Berber traditions. The highlight was definitely the camel trek at sunset. The vastness of the dunes and the vibrant colors of the sky were incredible. The desert camp had a communal vibe, with meals served under a large tent and shared bathrooms. It was a great way to meet fellow travelers and experience Berber hospitality. Keep in mind, the tents are basic, with mattresses on the floor and shared facilities. But for the price, it was perfectly comfortable. Overall, this tour was a fantastic way to experience the magic of the Sahara Desert without breaking the bank. Just be prepared for a basic camp experience and a long drive.
