This 4 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga is one of the best desert trips we offer. If you have a lot of time in Morocco and don’t want to spend hours in the car, this is the best choice. You can take breaks on the long drives between Marrakech and Merzouga.
This 4-day Marrakech desert tour gives you plenty of time to enjoy a wonderful trip through the high Atlas Mountains, passing by Berber villages, canyons, palm groves, and old kasbahs from the 1400s. The tour ends with an overnight camel trek in the Sahara desert of Erg Chebbi, Morocco.
The best private tour from Marrakech to Merzouga will also let you visit Berber nomad families, have a glass of mint tea, and learn about their nomadic way of life while staying in their tent. This is the perfect way to see the real Morocco and have an unforgettable experience in the Sahara Desert.
These are the most important parts of the 4 Days Marrakech to Merzouga Tour:
At 8:30 a.m., our driver will pick you up from your hotel in Marrakech to begin your four-day tour to Merzouga. The trip will begin in the Dades valley, going through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, which is 2,260 m above sea level and is in the High Atlas mountains.
We will enjoy the mountain road with its beautiful scenery and range of colors. Along the way to Ouarzazate, we will pass through many traditional Berber towns and stop at Taourirt Kasbah, which is one of the most impressive ksars in Morocco, as well as the Oscar film studios, where we will have lunch.
The next place to see is the Rose Valley, which is reached by walking through the large Skoura palm field. This is a beautiful spot to take in the scenery, and there are many kasbahs built in the area.
Roses are grown in this valley for beauty uses, like making the valuable rosewater. The Rose Festival takes place here every May, and the museum is an important part of Moroccan culture. We'll continue to Dades Valley, where we'll spend the night at a hotel with a view of the valley.
After breakfast at the hotel, our 4-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga will depart for the Todra Gorges. Along the way, we will pass through Tinghir and see the beautiful Todra Valley, which is full of palm trees. When we arrive at the Todra Gorges, which is one of the most popular climbing spots in Morocco, we will take a break to enjoy the view.
We will take a short walk through the high pink and gray canyons of the area, which can reach 300 meters. Then we will go to Tinjdad and Touroug for lunch. From there we will go to Erfoud, where we can see the first oasis of the Sahara, Tafilalet. From there it is on to Merzouga and the beautiful dunes of Erg Chebbi.
From here to your nomadic Berber huts, you will ride a camel for about an hour and a half. On the way, you will stop in the middle of the dunes to watch the sunset, try sandboarding if you like, take photos and enjoy the view.
You will continue on to the camp after sunset. Once you arrive, you will be greeted with a drink of mint tea. Then there will be food, a bonfire, a musical feast and a place to spend the night at the Berber camp in Merzouga.
After admiring the sunrise the next morning, you will refresh and shower at the camp. Then you will either get on camels or take an all-terrain vehicle back to your starting point, where you will meet your driver.
Then you will go to Ouarzazate, passing through Rissani, to see its weekly market, if you are lucky enough to be here on Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday, when it is open.
Then we will take a drive through an arid, pre-desert area, where we can see the acacia trees that grow in this type of environment. We will stop on the way to the Draa Valley to enjoy the beautiful view of the river that gives the valley its name. The river flows a long way in Morocco.
Our 4-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga continues to Ouarzazate through the Anti-Atlas Mountains. We will have some free time in town for lunch and then continue traveling to Ouarzazate. We will arrive in the late afternoon or evening, have dinner and stay overnight in a hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, we will head to the famous Kasbah of Ait ben Haddou, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986. Many movies, such as The Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, Sahara with Penelope Cruz and others, were filmed in this splendid place. We will cross the Tizi n'Tichka, stopping along the way to admire the beautiful views of the mountains and traditional Berber villages. We will have lunch in the middle of the Atlas Mountains. Then we will continue to Marrakech, where our 4-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga will end in the afternoon.

My friend and I had a great time with The Moroccan Desert Tours. Ziad was our driver, and he was great. Ziad picked us up right from our riad in Marrakesh, where our trip began. We drove into the desert for eight hours, stopping many times to eat and see sights. So much was known by Ziad. Around 5 p.m., we got to the desert, where our horses were ready to take us to our camp spot. We rode our horses through the desert for two hours. There were times when we got off to take shots and even sand surf on the dunes. We saw the sun go down in the desert and made it to dinner at the Janet Luxury camp in the middle of the desert. We danced, listened to drums, and ate traditional Moroccan food. The huts we stayed in were really nice and comfy. We got up early to see the sunrise and then got a ride back to where we met Ziad. He took us back to Marrakesh. On the way back, we stopped again for food and to buy Argan oil from Morocco. Ziad was really nice and made us feel like we could get around. This trip was great, and I would definitely suggest it!
Wonderful trip. Very punctual and friendly. Very polite and helpful. Would tell anyone to use this company to plan their trip. The four-day trip to the desert went really well. Omar, Hamid, and said. Did a great job.
Great four-day trip through the desert. We had a great helper named Younes. Professional, smart, well-informed, and fun. He told us a lot about the history of the area and told us all about the best places to eat. When it came to lodging, my wife paid more for a nicer place to stay, and it was well worth it. The height of comfort in the desert, with a beautiful look. In general, I don't think it cost much more than the usual lodgings. The car in question was a clean Toyota Land Cruiser. Very easy to relax. I can't say enough good things about this tour company.
