Overview:
The 5 Days Marrakech Desert Tour is one of the best trips we offer through the Marrakech desert. It’s the best choice for tourists with a lot of time in Morocco who want to skip the long drive between Marrakech and Merzouga and spend more time at each destination.
You will have a lot of time on this 5 day trip from Marrakech to Merzouga, so you can have a great trip through the high Atlas Mountains, seeing real Berber villages, canyons, palm groves, green valleys, old kasbahs from the 1400s, and of course the Sahara desert of Erg Chebbi, where you can go on a camel trek in Morocco.
Folks who want to see the real Morocco should plan to spend at least five days in Marrakech. During that time, they should meet Berber desert families, drink mint tea, and learn about how they live in tents.
Here are the highlights of the 5 Days Marrakech Desert Tour to Merzouga:
At 8:30 a.m., our local driver will pick you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech after breakfast. The first stop on your 5 Days Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour is the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, which is 2,260 m above sea level and leads to the Dades valley in the High Atlas mountains.
We will enjoy the mountain road with its beautiful scenery and range of colors. Along the way to Ouarzazate, we will pass through many traditional Berber towns and stop at Taourirt Kasbah, which is one of the most impressive ksars in Morocco, as well as the Oscar film studios, where we will have lunch.
The next place to see is the Rose Valley, which is reached by walking through the large Skoura palm field. This is a beautiful spot to take in the scenery, and there are many kasbahs built in the area. Roses are grown in this valley for beauty uses, like making the valuable rosewater.
The Rose Festival takes place here every May, and the museum is an important part of Moroccan culture. We'll continue to Dades Valley, where we'll spend the night at a hotel with a view of the valley.
Our 5-day Marrakech desert tours start with breakfast at the hotel and then head to Todra Gorge. Along the way, we'll pass through several Berber villages and stop to enjoy the beautiful Todra valley, which is full of palm trees. Finally, we'll get to Todra Gorges, which are currently one of the most popular places in Morocco for rock climbing.
Here, we'll take a short walk through the 300-meter-high gray and pink canyons. After that, we'll go to Tinjdad and Touroug for lunch, and then to Erfoud to experience the first oasis in the Sahara. From there, we'll continue to Merzouga and the beautiful Erg Chebbi dunes.
There is a break in the middle of the dunes where you can watch the sunset, try sandboarding if you'd like, take pictures, and enjoy the view. You will then take a camel ride that lasts about an hour and a half to get to your Nomadic berber tents.
After the sun goes down, you'll go to the camp and be greeted with a drink of mint tea. You'll then have dinner, a campfire, a music party, and a place to stay the night at the Berber camp Merzouga.
After breakfast at your hotel, we'll start our Merzouga trip to see some of the area's more interesting sights. We'll start by going to the Hassi Labied oasis to see its irrigation canal and farming land.
To the south is the yearly Sriji lake, if it's full of water. From there, we'll go to Khamlia town, where you can listen to the Gnawa music of people of color who came to Morocco as slaves more than one hundred years ago.
After, we'll go to the M'ifis mines. The Merzouga desert is also famous for its minerals and fossils. On our 4x4 desert tour of the Merzouga, we'll have the chance to meet a Berber family who still lives in a tent in the middle of the Sahara and have a glass of mint tea with them while we learn about their life.
On the way, we'll stop at a few different scenic views to take in the view and enjoy the scenery...We'll go to a nearby restaurant for lunch and then return to the village. Free time in the afternoon, dinner, and the night at a hotel or riad in Merzouga.
The next day, after a hearty breakfast at the hotel, you will rendezvous with your chauffeur. Proceeding to Ouarzazate, you will pass via Rissani to see its weekly traditional market, if we are fortunate enough to be there on one of the market's days (Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday).
After that, we'll go through a dry pre-desert region where we can view the usual acacia trees seen in this region. We'll pause along the route to the Draa valley to take in the breathtaking views of the river that gives the valley its name. It is Morocco's longest river. We begin our five-day desert trek from Marrakech to Ouarzazate by traversing the Anti Atlas.
After lunch in the city, we will continue our drive to Ouarzazate and arrive in the late afternoon or evening. We will have supper and spend the night at the hotel.
We will pick you up at your Ouarzazate hotel for breakfast and then drive to the fortified village of Ait ben Haddou. The famous Kasbah was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986, and many movies have been filmed there, including Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, and Sahara with Penélope Cruz. Before going through Tizi n'Tichka, you can stop along the way to enjoy the beautiful views of the mountains and traditional Berber towns. For lunch, you can eat at a restaurant in the middle of the Atlas Mountains. Then we'll keep going to Marrakech, where our 5-day Marrakech desert tour will end when we get there in the afternoon.
At Moroccan Desert Tours, we offer a wide range of hiring cars with drivers. Because the roads in the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert can be rough, our company uses Toyotas, which are some of the best 4WD cars. We have a Land Cruiser, a Toyota Prado, and a Toyota Prado TX. All over Morocco, our 4x4s are registered and allowed to be used by tourists.
If you want to travel through Morocco in style and ease, the Mercedes Vito is a great choice. For safety and comfort, it has strong air conditioning, airbags all around, and seats that are plenty big. It's great for small groups, even though it can fit up to six people. What's the bonus? There is a mini-fridge on board where you can keep your drinks and snacks during the trip!
You might want to rent a Ford Torneo if you're going to Morocco with a big family (up to 8 people). The van is the biggest in its class, and it can fit up to 10 bags and lots of people. The van is strong enough to handle cold and wet weather, and the seats are comfortable. So, it's a safe and roomy option for traveling around Morocco.
The Mercedes Sprinter is a good choice if you're going to Morocco with a group. The bus is fancy and roomy enough for up to 17 people to sit easily. The Mercedes Sprinter will make your trip feel extra special, whether you're going on a short trip or a long tour through the scenery of Morocco.
The road trip from Marrakech to Merzouga is 564 km long and takes about 9 hours. Along the way, you can stop for sweeping views and take pictures of some interesting sights to make sure you get to the Merzouga desert on time.
Our two-day Marrakech to Merzouga excursion is the only one offered in private.
You will start and end this Marrakech 2 desert tour at your hotel in Marrakech.
You can sandboard in the Erg Chebbi dunes in the Merzouga desert.
It takes about 1 hour for the camel to get to the camp.
The tents are always private, but at standard camp, the bathrooms are shared. At luxury camp, on the other hand, the bathrooms are private and connected to the tents.
Yes, our 4WD will take you to and from the camp.
We’ll bring all of your stuff to the camp for you, so when you get there, you can have it with you in your tent.
The desert camp does have blankets and toilet paper, but you should bring your own just in case.
Yes, the camp has power that comes from solar panels.
What to bring for your desert excursion in Morocco is listed below:
– Sunscreen – Suncreen
– A hat or scarf
– Long, light-colored sleeves – Comfortable long jeans for the camel ride – Tough sandals or shoes
– Flip-flops
– Sanitizers for hands
A tiny bag to store everything in; a portable charger; a first aid kit; A wallet to keep your cards and phone safe
The accommodations were tidy and comfy. It was fantastic, the tent in the desert. Being outside on the sand dunes is an experience that is incomparable. The natives will tell you that a head scarf is necessary, so I would advise packing one, even though the cost would be twice what you would spend if you bought one in before.
This excursion has exceeded the expectations of our group. Traveling through Morocco may be a little intimidating; only the most daring travelers would venture onto its roads to reach the interesting destinations included in this itinerary. It was very interesting and enjoyable to see the city from the desert, the city, and several locations throughout the countryside. It's quite useful to have everything organized for you, including camel rides, luxurious tents to sleep in, tour guides, etc. Everything about the vacation surpassed my expectations, and it's a very fantastic deal considering what you're spending. Essentially, it was a five-day vacation with everything covered (except for lunch and maybe an exhibit entry ticket if you stayed until the very end, which some tour group members did not do due to travel schedules). We would not have been able to see Marrakesh without this trip. Our other guides, Azul/Abdesalam in particular, were really gregarious and talkative. We appreciate you letting us explore your culture!
Great experience!! Was wonderful! I want to try it again 🙂 I Will be back! Thank You for everything!!
